Pediatrics is concerned with the complete health of infants, children and adolescents including their growth and development and their ability to achieve their full potential as adults. At SETMA, we have embraced these concerns and made them our creed. We assume significant responsibility for the mental, physical, and emotional progress from conception to maturity and are also concerned with the environmental and social influences which impact on health and wellbeing of the children in our practices and the wellbeing of their families.

Pediatrics emerged over a century ago as a medical specialty in response to awareness that the health needs of children differed from that of adults. Children's ability to respond to medical and environmental problems varies with age, physical maturity, physical strength, stress and availability of resources. At SETMA, we endeavor to minimize these variables as we provide optimal treatment for all physical, emotional and social needs. We are most concerned with the specific maladies indigenous to our geographical area. In keeping with this philosophy, at SETMA, we focus on those problems that represent the greatest risk to our community.

We are well aware of the impact that allergens and pollutants play in our children's health and school attendance. With that realization, we provide on site allergy testing and immunotherapy and screening. We also provide ongoing, in depth education and management of asthma with our state of the art asthma electronic medical record templates.

In addition, we will soon be establishing the first weight management clinics for children and adolescents in Southeast Texas private sector. In recognizing the need of our children and adolescents to be able to compete in the educational sector, we are very active in recognizing and treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and have on- site the most objective computerized testing (TOVA) to aid in making the diagnosis of ADD.

We strongly endorse and promote preventative health care in all areas and maintain updated and complete immunization schedules as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

With the upcoming vacation season we provide significant information in the form of pamphlets and instructional guidance to keep our children safe and informed. Our board certified Pediatricians participate actively in on going continuing medical education and the recertification process. In this way, we can keep up with the ever increasing fund of information necessary to provide our children and their families with the most up-to-date and cutting-edge technological advances. We also have a broad base of referral sources including many that are on site.

At SETMA, our Pediatricians and Nurses strive to achieve completeness and compassion as we attempt to maintain your dignity and integrity in providing you with the most comprehensive and thorough medical care available.

And, all of this is because at SETMA, "We really like kids!"
